DIY For A Cure is a movement to bring awareness to pediatric cancer through DIY. The woodworking, maker, and DIY community on Instagram is helping to bring awareness to childhood cancer and raise funds to support further cancer research for children. This happens during September, Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and this year, specifically during the week of Sept 24 – 30, 2023.
DIYFAC partners with Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. This means that all donations made are a tax write off. Just keep the emailed receipt you receive from your donation for your CPA come tax season.
Kell and Oanh (founders of DIYFAC) have children battling these horrible diseases. Kell’s son, Donald is battling Neuroblastoma, a type of nerve cancer. Oanh’s son battled Acute Myeloid Leukemia – a type of blood cancer.
To honor the little warriors, we hold DIYFAC during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month in September.
Childhood Cancer is symbolized with the gold ribbon. DIYFAC chose the closest color to gold (yellow) to honor every child (and in some rare cases, adults) diagnosed with a pediatric cancer.
DIYFAC is always held in September each year to coincide with Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, with the majority of our efforts during the week of Sept 24-30, 2023.
We are so glad all our maker, woodworking and DIY friends want to be a part of DIYFAC this year. We have a link to download the fact slides that can then be shared throughout September. During the week of Sept. 24-30, we ask that you focus your project around raising awareness and funds for childhood cancer research (however that may look on your page)
If you’re a brand and would like to participate in the 2023 DIYFAC we are currently accepting both monetary donations through our specific MSK link and product donations that’s will be given away to raffle style the week of 24-30th.
Please note: If you would like your company logo to be added on this year’s slides, we need to be notified of your interest no later than August 25.
Our goal is to reach as many people as possible to raise both awareness and funds for childhood cancer research. Even if you’re not a content creator or brand you ABSOLUTELY still can participate by sharing slides from the DIYFAC page with friends and family, donating through the link on your page if you are able to, and liking, sharing and commenting on DIYFAC content.
DONATE! Any donation of $10 or more counts, all we ask is that you go to our instagram @diyforacure, follow us, and comment “Donated” on any of our posts. That’s it!
We will be collecting a list of all those that have donated $10+ and at the end of the week, September 30th, we will be doing a drawing for all kinds of swag from Christmas trees to tools to sand paper.
If you win you’ll be contacted to confirm your donation (so make sure you have a screenshot of it) and your shipping address to mail you the item.
